I'm really happy with Yast in terms of it being the best way i know of to keep track of what i'm doing at work. accurate, quick, no time wasted and you can focus on what really matters.
what i don't like though, is its unstable feel to it. i doesnt feel solid. So i quickly drew up some ideas taking inspiration from grooveshark's UI. basically what i refer to as "the creattica style". i like it due to the fact that it offers a certain depth, without being annoying with too contrasty gradients, etc. naturally this shouldn't be the final version, but i just wanted to get my idea across.
In the
first picture, you'll see what it might look like in idle mode. As one might see, it has a more solid feel and the arrows left and right (popping up on mouse-over) scroll the time line back and forth.
In the
second imageyou see how the timeline might react to user input. personally i think these triangle-popup things are widely overused, but perfectly fit the bill here. furthermore i love black contrasty elements when used like this. Notice the ability to remove a block from the timeline by clicking on the "x". handles left and right emphasise on the fact that you can edit its length.
all in all i tried to aim for a more hands-on and solid feel.
I hope you take a minute or so to simply go through some ideas. nothing big.
